5 important things you need to know

06 Jul 5 important things you need to know

Ron Kingston, Eric Benet, Sade and Babyface have all stepped away from their traditional contemporary R&B styles to release nostalgic soulful albums. They all have a history of making good music, but something about their latest albums feels different. “I knew that settling on using loops and synthesizers would not give my record the authenticity I desired…I want my songs to feel and sound like it was recorded in the mid to late ‘70s with live instrumentation,” Kingston said when he was interviewed by a magazine on the 4th of July to discuss his latest (EP) album entitled “All You Need To Know”.

The album’s lead track, “U-Turn,” so effective encompasses that time period. “My Friend” is the 5th track on the CD written by American R&B producer/artist Keith Martin. “Keith came to me and said I’ve got a track for you that the world will love so he put me in a studio with a female singer and within 4 hours and no rehearsals we had recorded a duet song called “My Friend”. After the recording session Kingston felt the song was so good he knew that a music video had to be made for it. 4 out of the 5 tracks on the album have music videos available for viewing online.

Kingston’s sound treads the boards of American singers like Bobby Caldwell, Babyface and a hint of Michael Jackson. That’s not, however, to leash him to a breed of pre-existing musical derivatives. His music stands apart in its own right, not least due to the musicianship boasted in the old school Rhodes keyboard sounds or the way his voice can switch between a fragile china-bone murmur one minute to a smooth effortless songbird the next.

Overall, Ron Kingston’s 5 track EP “All You Need To Know” is a pretty strong CD that is very enjoyable.  It is very organic. No frills, no voice distortion, no gimmicks, just good old fashion sensual R&B. Love him or hate him, Kingston has a great music future.
“All You Need To Know” is available now on Itunes & other online stores.
